British pop star Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung Electronics, accusing the tech giant of using her image without permission to market its television sets.
The lawsuit alleges that Samsung featured a copyrighted image of Lipa on the front of cardboard boxes containing televisions for retail sale, leading to what seemed like her endorsement of the product.
Lipa's lawyers claim that the image, titled "Dua Lipa - Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024," was used on the TV boxes without her consent, and that Samsung repeatedly refused to stop using it after being demanded to do so.
The lawsuit also accuses Samsung of breaching publicity rights and causing dilution of Lipa's brand identity and commercial goodwill by falsely conveying that she endorses the products.
