A military plane carrying 125 people crashed in southwestern Colombia, killing at least 66 people and injuring dozens more.

The Lockheed Martin-built Hercules C-130 was taking off from Puerto Leguizamo when it nosedived just seconds after takeoff, according to videos circulating on social media.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has criticized bureaucratic obstacles delaying his plans to modernize the military, saying that if the decision is not approved, officials must be removed.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, with authorities working to evacuate the injured and confirm the status of more than 40 people on board.
