Delta Air Lines has removed food and beverage service from roughly 450 daily flights starting May 19, affecting flights under 349 miles. Passengers on longer flights will still receive full snack and beverage offerings.
The airline confirmed that flights 350 miles or more will continue to offer full service, while shorter flights will no longer include snacks, drinks, or meals in Delta Main Cabin and Delta Comfort.
Flight attendants explained that the change is due to a policy shift to create a more consistent experience across the network, but also mentioned that they will be required to complete final preparations at 18,000 feet instead of 10,000 feet to ensure safety.
The change has sparked criticism from travelers, but flight attendants defended the policy, citing safety concerns due to turbulence during descent.
