Two trains collided outside Jakarta, Indonesia, late Monday, killing two passengers and injuring an unknown number of others, according to the state-owned KAI rail company.

The collision occurred near the Bekasi Timur Station, about 25 kilometers from Jakarta, and involved a CommuterLine train and a long-distance diesel train.

The Commuter Line train was stopped on track 1 when the long-distance train entered the same track and collided head-on, destroying the rear of the CommuterLine train.

Victims are being evacuated from the wreckage with assistance from the military, fire brigade, and national search and rescue agency.

Transport accidents are not uncommon in Indonesia, where buses, trains, and planes are often old and poorly maintained.
