US President Donald Trump has announced the removal of tariffs on Scottish whisky in honour of King Charles III and Queen Camilla as they concluded their state visit to the United States.

The move represents a significant trade concession to Britain, a key ally, despite strained transatlantic relations over the Iran war.

Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social network, stating that the royal couple had 'got me to do something that nobody else was able to do, without hardly even asking!'

The 10% tariff on Scotch whisky from the UK was set to increase later this year, but Trump's decision will allow preferential duty access for whisky produced in the UK.

The US remains the primary export market for Scotch whisky, accounting for $1.2 billion per year.
