Bhubaneswar, Odisha BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik has sought Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's intervention over an incident in Odisha, where a tribal man exhumed his sister's skeleton to withdraw money from a rural bank.
Patnaik, in a letter, urged Sitharaman to ensure clear accountability for the incident, which took place in Keonjhar district, and guarantee citizen-centric service delivery with empathy and compassion.
The incident occurred on April 27 in the Malliposi branch of the Odisha Grameen Bank, where Jeetu Munda was forced to exhume the body of his sister Kalra Munda, who died in January, to prove her death and withdraw his rightful dues.
A video of Munda carrying the skeleton has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage and highlighting the need for a more humane banking administration, especially in remote tribal areas.
Patnaik expressed confidence that with Sitharaman's intervention, this kind of inhuman treatment of citizens will not be repeated anywhere else in the country.
