Union sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya expressed optimism about Formula 1's return to India, stating that the event could take place as early as 2027 at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida. However, F1 officials have indicated that India may have to wait a little longer.
Mandaviya has been actively involved in talks with the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) and other stakeholders regarding the opening of the BIC and solving the logistical and administrative logjam. Three companies have shown interest in organising the race, and the government is working to ease processes, including taxation, to make it viable for the organisers.
The BIC is India's lone FIA Grade 1 certified track, which also hosted a MotoGP race in 2023. The government is keen on bringing back MotoGP, with the latter also showing interest.
