The city of Ahmedabad is buzzing with sports activities, hosting international competitions like the Asian Weightlifting Championships and the Grandmasters chess tournament. The government's push to promote India as a global sporting destination has led to a surge in international events.

Major sports projects, including the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Sports Enclave, and The Gujarat Police Academy, Karai, are underway for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. The SVP Sports Enclave will feature an aquatics centre, a tennis centre, and a multipurpose arena, with key facilities expected to be completed by 2029.

The VSS Complex, built in 30 acres, has a multipurpose indoor arena and an aquatics centre, hosting international competitions like the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships. The complex was built at a cost of nearly ₹800 crore.

Other sports facilities, including a hockey venue in Gandhinagar, are also being developed. The World Police and Fire Games will be organized in Ahmedabad next year, with over 10,000 competitors from 72 countries.

Existing training and competition infrastructure at Vijayi Bharat Foundation (VBF) is being refurbished, with a new high-performance centre, residential training facility, and a "ready-to-use satellite village" being built.
