A mother's ultimate sacrifice during Venezuela's devastating earthquakes has left a nation in shock. Andrea Bello, the wife of soccer player Hector Bello, lost her life while shielding her 1-year-old daughter, Alana, from the catastrophic series of earthquakes that struck the country on June 24.

Hector Bello paid tribute to his late wife on Instagram, calling her a 'hero' for her bravery and selflessness. He shared a photo of Andrea and vowed to tell their daughter about her mother's heroism, saying 'I'll tell her the story of how you saved her, how you gave your own life for our daughter, how you were a brave woman who, even with your last breaths, never abandoned her.'

The earthquakes, which included a 7.2 magnitude quake followed by a 7.5 magnitude quake, have left a trail of destruction in Venezuela, with over 920 fatalities and 3,360 injuries reported. Approximately 50,000 people are still unaccounted for, making it the most significant earthquake to hit the South American nation in over a century.
