Mizoram Declared India First Fully Literate State with 98.2% Literacy Rate In a significant achievement, Mizoram has been declared India's first fully literate state under the ULLAS (Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society) initiative, boasting a remarkable literacy rate of 98.2%. Chief Minister Shri Pu Lalduhoma announced the milestone at the MZU auditorium, emphasizing the importance of sustained education and skill development. The achievement is a result of the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including Samagra Shiksha and the New India Literacy Programme.

Under these programs, 1,692 individuals overcame past educational barriers, marking a significant milestone in the state's educational journey. The announcement was made at a special function in Aizawl by Hon'ble Minister of State for Education and Minister of State (IC) for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Jayant Singh, in the presence of Hon'ble Chief Minister of Mizoram, Shri Lalduhoma. On social media, Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, congratulated the people of Mizoram on becoming India's first fully literate state.

He noted that this achievement is a momentous and proud milestone in the state's educational journey, as well as a moment of great pride for the nation. Pradhan further emphasized that Mizoram's achievement should inspire all States/UTs to pursue inclusive, equitable, and lifelong learning with the same spirit of dedication, aiming to achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat.

The program focuses on empowering individuals, particularly women and marginalized communities, to acquire new skills and knowledge to enhance their employability and contribute to the nation's growth. The state's literacy rate has been steadily increasing over the years, with a significant improvement in the past decade. The New India Literacy Programme, launched in 2019, has played a crucial role in improving literacy rates in the state.

The program focuses on providing educational opportunities to out-of-school children, improving the quality of education, and promoting digital literacy. Samagra Shiksha, a flagship program of the Ministry of Education, aims to improve the quality of education by providing resources and support to schools. The program focuses on promoting inclusive education, improving teacher training, and enhancing the overall learning environment. Mizoram's achievement is not only a milestone for the state but also a model for other states to follow. The state's commitment to education and its efforts to promote lifelong learning can serve as a catalyst for other states to strive for similar achievements.
