A devastating bus crash on the East-West Highway in Perak, Malaysia, has claimed the lives of 15 students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI). The chartered bus was transporting students from a study trip back to their campus when it collided with a Perodua Alza MPV at 1:10 am. The students, who were returning from a study trip, were traveling from Jeli, Kelantan to Gerik, Perak. The Higher Education Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and pledged assistance from the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) and the university. UPSI vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff has assigned one staff member to each affected family to ensure they receive appropriate assistance. The incident is a grim reminder of the dangers on Malaysian roads, coming just a month after nine members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) died in a separate mishap in Teluk Intan, Perak.
