Appointment of Anurag Dhankar as Tripura Police Chief

The Tripura government has appointed Anurag Dhankar, a 1994-batch IPS officer, as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of the state. Dhankar, currently serving as Tripura DGP (Intelligence), replaces Amitabh Ranjan, who is set to retire later this month.

Experience and Background

Anurag Dhankar brings vast experience in policing to his new role, having served in Tripura for around 16 years in different tenures. His expertise spans various positions, including :

     Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI): Dhankar worked as a superintendent of police, deputy inspector general, joint director, and additional director. Notably, he led the CBI investigation against fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi in the Punjab National Bank fraud case.

     Central Industrial Security Force (CISF): He served as inspector general (personnel).

     United Nations Mission: Dhankar was part of the UN Mission in Kosovo from 2003-04.

     Special Investigation Team: He chaired the SIT for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

Recognition and Awards

Dhankar has been conferred with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service, recognizing his outstanding contributions to law enforcement .
