Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has condemned the recent incident where a shopkeeper was slapped by MNS workers for not speaking Marathi. Fadnavis emphasized that while Marathi should be respected, thuggery in the name of any language won't be tolerated. He also assured that strict action will be taken against those who take the law into their own hands. The incident, which went viral on social media, showed MNS workers questioning a 48-year-old shopkeeper about his language proficiency, with one worker saying, "If you don't know Marathi, then why are you working in Maharashtra?" The shopkeeper tried to explain that he didn't know Marathi was compulsory and lacked knowledge in the language, but the workers got angry and started slapping him. When asked about the incident, MNS worker Amol Patil defended their actions, saying that the shopkeeper's attitude led them to slap him. However, Fadnavis has made it clear that such behavior will not be tolerated in the state. The incident has sparked debate about the importance of respecting different languages, while also ensuring that no one is harassed or intimidated for not speaking a particular language.
