At the United Nations Ocean Conference, Dr Jitendra Singh, a senior Indian minister, revealed that countries around the world are now looking up to India to address global challenges, particularly those related to the oceans. He attributed this shift in perception to the decisive measures taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the last 11 years, which have transformed India's capabilities and capacities. As the Modi government completes its 11 years in office, Dr Singh noted that India is now being recognized as a serious player in global affairs, including ocean conservation, climate change, and clean energy. He emphasized that the challenges facing the world's oceans require collective action, as nearly 70% of the Earth's surface is covered in water and the consequences of pollution and climate change know no borders. Dr Singh highlighted that India is taking a leading role in addressing these challenges, including its efforts to ban single-use plastics and its Deep Ocean Mission, which is being conducted in collaboration with the Indian Space Agency, ISRO, and other research institutions. The Indian delegation, led by Dr Singh, has been in high demand for one-on-one meetings with other countries, underscoring India's growing influence in global affairs.
