Union Minister Lays Foundation Stone of Integrated Aquapark in Tripura at a Cost of Rs. 42.4 Crore

The Integrated Aqua Park at Kailashahar, which has been inaugurated at a cost of Rs 42.4 crore, is expected to act as the backbone of modern fish production and marketing infrastructure, benefiting a wide range of stakeholders in the aquaculture ecosystem. Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Panchayati Raj Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh laid the foundation stone of the Integrated Aquapark at Kailashahar, Tripura, at a function held in Agartala, Tripura.

The Minister emphasized the importance of the fisheries sector in India's economy, highlighting that it has achieved a growth rate of 9.08% since 2014-15, which is the highest among the agriculture and allied sectors in India.

The Union Minister urged the stakeholders to make efforts to transform Tripura into a "fishery surplus state" capable of exporting fish and achieve the production target of 2 lakh tonnes, which is significantly higher than the state's requirement of 1.5 lakh tonnes. He also noted that soon Tripura will also become an organic fish cluster like Sikkim.

Minister for Fisheries, ARDD and SC Welfare, Government of Tripura, Shri Sudhanshu Das, stressed on the state's commitment to the development of fishermen and fish farmers through targeted interventions. The Minister informed that under the Matsya Sahayata Yojana, identified fishermen and fish farmers are getting financial assistance of Rs. 6,000 per annum for their livelihood. Encouraging the youth to take up fish farming as a viable avenue for employment, he noted that Tripura has significant untapped potential in this sector.
