The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has clarified its involvement in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, stating that it is a routine measure to provide security at major sporting events. The agency had faced questions about its presence at the event, which comes amid President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown. CBP officials emphasized that their mission remains unchanged, and they work closely with local and federal partners to ensure the safety of all involved in the tournament. The agency had previously deleted a social media post announcing its officers' presence at the event. FIFA President Gianni Infantino also addressed concerns about CBP's involvement, saying that the organization prioritizes security for fans attending the games. CBP agents have been involved in security efforts for large events, including the Super Bowl, and will handle tasks such as screening cargo shipments for hazardous materials and contributing to emergency planning. The Club World Cup, featuring 32 teams from around the globe, kicks off on Saturday and will continue through July 13.
