Burbank Stabbing Suspect Sergio Fraire Arrested in Mother-Daughter Killing

A 30-year-old suspect, Sergio Fraire, has been arrested in connection with a shocking stabbing inside a Burbank home that killed a first-grade teacher and seriously injured her daughter, a mental health activist.

According to police, the stabbing occurred on April 20, 2026, at a home on North Brighton Street in Burbank, where 59-year-old Arti Varma, a first-grade teacher, and her 25-year-old daughter, Meera Varma, a mental health activist, were found with stab wounds.

Despite efforts to save her, Arti Varma died from her injuries, while Meera Varma is currently in stable condition at a nearby hospital.

Fraire was taken into custody late Monday night after a SWAT team searched a home on East Palm Avenue, where he was believed to be staying.

He has been arrested and booked on charges of murder and attempted murder, with formal charges still being reviewed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
