Karen Savage, a 63-year-old Hillsborough County middle school art teacher, has been fired after a viral video showed her allegedly hanging a Black baby doll by its neck in class.

The video, posted by the student's mother Nina Williams on social media, quickly gained massive traction and sparked outrage.

According to reports, Savage tied the doll to a cable connected to the classroom television, and when students asked her why she did it, she laughed it off, saying it was to 'get their attention.'

Williams wrote that the incident 'emotionally affected all the children in that classroom' and that her son's friends of different cultures and races were 'deeply offended and disturbed' by the racist act.

The school district has confirmed that Savage's employment has been terminated, effective immediately, and the incident has been reported to the Florida Department of Education's Office of Professional Practice Services for any action regarding her teaching certificate.
