The suspect in a mass shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, has been identified as Shamar Elkins, who was later shot and killed by police following a pursuit. The attack left eight children dead and two adult women injured, with authorities believing the incident stemmed from a domestic disturbance.
Records show Elkins was previously arrested in 2019 for firing multiple shots near Caddo Magnet School while children were present outside the campus.
The two women shot by the gunman are in critical condition, with officials saying they had some form of relationship with the suspect.
Authorities have not publicly announced a motive in the mass killing, with Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry and US House Speaker Mike Johnson expressing their heartbreak and praising law enforcement's response.
