Shamar Elkins, 31, has been identified as the suspect in a mass shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, which left eight children dead and two adult women injured.
The shooting occurred during a domestic disturbance and the suspect was later shot and killed by Shreveport police following a pursuit.
Some of the children killed were the suspect's 'descendants' and ranged in age from one to 14.
Authorities have not publicly announced a motive in the mass killing.
Elkins had a prior arrest record, including a 2019 incident where he fired multiple shots near a school while children were present.
