A tornado warning was issued for Beatrice, Harbine, and Ellis in Nebraska on Thursday as scary visuals of the storm emerged on social media.
The National Weather Service (NWS) posted a tornado warning for the area until 3:15 PM CDT, warning of rotation in the storm and potential golf ball-sized hail.
Residents were advised to take shelter in sturdy buildings immediately, with Beatrice Middle School announcing that students would not be dismissed until the warning was lifted.
Photos and videos shared on social media showed the massive storm formation near Beatrice, with one user claiming to have taken a photo of the tornado from their hotel room northwest of the city.
An update from an Oklahoma weather page noted that thunderstorms had stayed out of Kansas but were not far away, with a tornado watch issued for the area and central Kansas.
