Raijor Dal founder and MLA Akhil Gogoi is contesting the 2026 Assam Assembly elections from Sivasagar, a seat he won in 2021 while in judicial custody.

Gogoi's campaign is built on his legacy as a firebrand activist, focusing on issues like big-dam projects, land rights, and the rising cost of living under the current administration.

A former student leader and Marxist ideologue, Gogoi has been a leading voice for regionalism and indigenous rights, heading the Raijor Dal as part of the opposition alliance challenging the ruling BJP's decade-long dominance.

With a seat-sharing arrangement with the Indian National Congress, Gogoi is acting as a lead strategist for the opposition in Upper Assam, seeking a "People's Mandate" for change in the Sivasagar constituency.
