Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the European Union has removed its negative travel advisory for the northeastern state, paving the way for increased tourist inflow and trade opportunities.

The move comes after a high-level EU delegation visited Assam earlier this month to explore greater engagement with the state. A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Assam Industrial Development Corporation Limited and the Federation of European Business in India to promote investment awareness and knowledge exchange.

Sarma expressed gratitude to EU Ambassador to India, Herve Delphin, for his support in taking this forward. He urged entrepreneurs in Assam to focus on providing a wholesome experience to tourists by setting up homestays and showcasing the state's diverse food and culture.

However, restrictive travel advisories will remain for three districts—Charaideo, Sibsagar, and Dibrugarh—where the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act is still in force.
