Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated a landmark electoral performance after the BJP's third consecutive win in Assam and a massive victory in West Bengal. Modi credited the inspiration of historical figures like Srimanta Sankardev, Bhupen Hazarika, and Lachit Borphukan for the state's decision to accelerate its development journey.
Modi said, 'Assam will further accelerate its development journey, inspired by many great personalities.' He also thanked party workers for their efforts, saying, 'Ek baar phir se kamal khila diya hai.'
The BJP won 82 seats in Assam, while the Congress trailed with 19 seats. In West Bengal, the BJP secured a landslide victory, leading or winning in 206 seats, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) trailed significantly.
Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is poised for a second term as CM, leading in Jalukbari. He credited Modi, home minister Amit Shah, and party workers for the result, saying the mandate is for development and identity.
