Pole Vaulters Set to Soar at Indian Indoor Open in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar will host the Indian Indoor Open Combined Events and Pole Vault Competition, featuring top athletes Dev Kumar Meena and Baranica Elangovan. The two-day meet will take place at the state-of-the-art Indoor facility at the Kalinga Stadium complex, which has hosted the National Indoor Championships and will host the World Indoor Championships in 2028.

Meena, a 20-year-old national record holder, aims to perform his personal best at the meet. The men's pole vault qualification criteria for the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games is 5.25m, while the qualification mark for women is 4.45m.

Fourteen pole vaulters will compete in the men's event on Saturday, including Kuldeep Kumar and Reegan G, who have impressive performances this season. Seven athletes have confirmed their participation in the men's U20 pole vault event.

The women's pole vault final will be held on Sunday, with Baranica Elangovan, who set a new national record of 4.22m, being the main focus. Over 80 athletes have confirmed their participation in the meet, which will also feature competition in heptathlon and pentathlon.
