Amazon.com Inc. is investing an additional $5 billion in Anthropic PBC, with the potential for up to $20 billion more over time, deepening their ties in the competitive AI industry.
Anthropic plans to spend over $100 billion on Amazon's cloud technologies and chips over the next 10 years, the companies said in a statement.
Amazon's prior investments in Anthropic total $8 billion, and the partnership has given its cloud business a leading AI model and a major customer for its Trainium line of AI chips.
Anthropic has access to Amazon's corporate clients, with over 100,000 customers running Claude models on Amazon Web Services.
The AI company is expected to conduct an initial public offering as soon as this year, and has been racing to persuade more businesses to pay for its software.
Anthropic has secured deals with Broadcom Inc. and Alphabet Inc. to access immense processing power, and will receive chips from Amazon to reach about 5 GW of power.
