Akshaye Khanna's commanding presence in the film Dhurandhar has left audiences in awe, but what many don't know is that the viral Fa9la sequence almost didn't make it to the screen. The film's costume designer, Smriti Chauhan, revealed that the initial costume plan was vastly different from what audiences are now familiar with. Akshaye Khanna, who plays the character Rehman Dakait, suggested that the outfit should reflect his street-smart origins. This single input completely changed the course of the character's costume journey. Smriti explained that the outfits were designed to mirror Rehman's rise to power throughout the film. As he progresses from a humble background to joining a political party, the costumes transition from distressed linens and denims to sophisticated silk-wool pathanis. The iconic Fa9la sequence, where Rehman is seen dancing with dozens of dancers in white, also underwent significant changes. Initially, the plan was for everyone to wear black, but Smriti and director Aditya Dhar decided to incorporate cultural authenticity by dressing the dancers in white, a nod to the original Balochi attire. To make Rehman stand out, Akshaye was dressed in black, with a Balochi pathani that has become an integral part of his character's identity. Throughout the process, Aditya Dhar remained closely involved, ensuring that the final look would have a lasting impact on the audience. As seen in the film, the intention was to freeze the audience's attention whenever Rehman Dakait appears on screen. Akshaye Khanna's look in the viral Fa9la sequence has left a lasting impression on audiences, and it's clear that his input and the team's efforts paid off in creating a truly memorable character.
