Actor Vivaan Shah, known for his nuanced portrayals in films like Happy New Year and independent projects, has spoken about the challenges he faces in getting cast in certain roles. In a recent interview, the son of Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah revealed that his youthful appearance often hinders his chances of playing characters like army officers or police inspectors. However, his latest film, Ikkis, marked a significant break for him as he got to play the role of Captain Vijendra Malhotra, a tank commander in the 17th Poona Horse regiment. Ikkis, directed by Sriram Raghavan, is a war drama based on the life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, the youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra. Shah's performance in the film, which was released on January 1, has garnered positive reviews, with many praising his portrayal of Malhotra. The film also stars Agastya Nanda, Jaideep Ahlawat, Suhasini Mulay, Sikander Kher, and Rahul Dev, and marks the final on-screen appearance of veteran actor Dharmendra. Despite receiving largely positive reviews, Ikkis failed to sustain its box office momentum, earning only ₹25 crore net in its first week. However, Shah remains grateful for the opportunity to play a character that deviated from his usual typecast, and is hopeful that it will open up more opportunities for him in the future.
