Malayalam film industry director and former MLA PT Kunju Muhammed has been released on bail after being arrested in connection with a molestation case involving a woman from the film industry. Muhammed had approached the court for anticipatory bail before his arrest, but the public prosecutor opposed the plea citing serious allegations. However, Additional District and Sessions Judge Rekha R granted him relief. The case against Muhammed began when the Cantonment Police registered a complaint filed by a woman who alleged that the filmmaker had molested her at a hotel during the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). Muhammed's team has denied the allegations, stating that the complaint was initially submitted to the chief minister rather than the police. Muhammed, a graduate of Mathematics from St. Thomas College, Thrissur, has directed several critically acclaimed films, including Garshom, Paradeshi, and Veeraputhran. He is also a founding director of Kairali TV and presents the program Pravasalokam. A two-time MLA, Muhammed has yet to comment on the allegations against him.
