A copyright dispute is brewing over the recent release of Mastiii 4, starring Riteish Deshmukh. Content creator Ashish Sharma has filed a lawsuit against the film's makers in the Delhi High Court, alleging that a key comedy scene in the movie is a direct copy of his viral Instagram reel. The content creator's plea, filed on January 6, claims that the film's producers borrowed the central idea, storyline, and even the punchline from his original work without permission or credit. According to the complaint, Ashish Sharma's Instagram reel, titled 'Shaq Karne Ka Nateeja,' had garnered over 11 million views in January 2024. The content creator is seeking a permanent injunction against the film's makers, along with financial compensation and a full profit report. The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the producers, allowing them to respond to the allegations before considering any interim order. The case is set to be heard next on January 13, 2026. In a related development, actor Aftab Shivdasani, who has been part of the Masti franchise since its inception, has defended the series, saying that it is intended for entertainment purposes only. He clarified that the films aim to entertain rather than moralize, and that they should not be taken seriously. Mastiii 4, released on November 21, features Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, and Aftab Shivdasani in lead roles, along with other notable actors. The film is expected to be released on OTT platforms this month.
