Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has responded to director Priyadarshan's comment attributing his ₹9 crore debt case to his 'poor education'. Rajpal, who was recently granted interim bail, stated that Priyadarshan doesn't know him and that he is a well-educated man.
In an interview with Screen, Rajpal said, 'This is completely wrong. Priyanji doesn't know me. I am a well-educated man. I have been working from the age of 11 to 55. Even the biggest stalwarts land in trouble at some point, but that has nothing to do with their education.'
Rajpal added that he respects Priyadarshan and has worked with him on several films, but that Priyadarshan's intention behind the comment is not pure. He also stated that he wouldn't have survived in the industry for 25-30 years if he was poorly educated.
The debt case against Rajpal began when he took a loan of ₹5 crore to fund his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata, which failed at the box office. The matter escalated into a legal battle, and Rajpal was sentenced to six months of simple imprisonment. He was later granted interim bail until March 18, subject to furnishing a bail bond of ₹1 lakh and depositing ₹1.5 crore with the complainant.
