The Maharashtra government is reviving ND Studios in Karjat, a once-iconic film production hub, with a series of modern amenities and training programs. The studio, which has witnessed its fair share of challenges, including the tragic death of its founder Nitin Desai, will now be transformed into a 'centre of excellence' with a scriptwriter lab, residential training modules, and cutting-edge post-production facilities. After Nitin Desai's passing in August 2023, the studio's potential was put to the test. However, it managed to secure a place in the industry by providing vital support to major television serials facing production issues. The government's ambitious plan, led by Cultural Affairs Secretary Kiran Kulkarni and Film City MD Swati Mhase Patil, aims to restore the facility to its former glory. Key initiatives include the launch of a scriptwriter lab in January, a Marathi content mentoring program, and immersive experiences to attract global visitors. To bridge the gap between talent and industry requirements, the studio will partner with the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) to conduct certified training courses. The facility will also host a grand carnival from December 25 to 31, marking the beginning of this new era. ND Studios' CEO Meena Joglekar will oversee the revival strategy, which is expected to bring the studio back to its prime as a vibrant space for film production and training. The government's efforts aim to honor Nitin Desai's vision while embracing modern technology to create a hub of creativity and innovation.
