Salman Khan's 2009 blockbuster Wanted marked a turning point in his career, transforming him into a mass action star. The film, a remake of the Telugu hit Pokiri, catapulted Khan to box office domination in the 2010s. However, according to producer Boney Kapoor, Ayesha Takia was almost left out of the film. Boney Kapoor shares the making of Wanted, which began as a remake of Pokiri. After watching the Telugu film, he wanted to remake it in Hindi with Salman Khan in the lead. Despite Khan's hectic schedule, he eventually watched the film and gave his approval. Prabhu Deva was brought on board to direct. According to Boney Kapoor, Salman Khan initially suggested his frequent co-star Katrina Kaif for the lead role in Wanted. However, Kapoor decided to cast a fresh face, reasoning that the character's ambivalence about her feelings for Radhe would be more believable with an actress who hadn't worked with Khan before. The film ultimately starred Ayesha Takia, who was chosen after considering several other actresses, including Genelia D'Souza. Wanted released on September 18, 2009, and became a huge hit, earning over ₹60 crore net in India and ₹100 crore gross worldwide. The film's success paved the way for Khan's future blockbusters, including Dabangg, Ready, and Bodyguard, cementing his status as Bollywood's top star in the years to come.
