In a grand event held at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, thousands of fans from around the world gathered to witness the title reveal and trailer of SS Rajamouli's highly anticipated film, Varanasi. The event, which took place on Saturday evening, was attended by lead stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, making it a memorable night for fans. Shruti Haasan performed at the event, setting the tone for the evening. The title reveal was accompanied by a massive screen display, where fans were handed 'passports' as a part of the theme. The event saw a bike rally and specially made posters carried by fans, creating a festive atmosphere. The trailer, which was unveiled beforehand, shows an asteroid falling to Earth, with pieces landing in various locations, including Varanasi, Antarctica, Africa, and more. The film appears to span across centuries, hinting at a connection to the Ramayana. The visual ends with Mahesh Babu, playing the role of Rudhra, riding a bull and wielding a trishul (trident) while covered in blood, with temples in the background. The teaser also suggests that the film may be a time travel story, with the hashtags #GlobeTrotter and #TimeTrotter displayed at the end. Varanasi is Rajamouli's next film, following the 2022 hit RRR, which received global acclaim and even won an Oscar for the song Naatu Naatu. The film stars Mahesh Babu alongside Priyanka Chopra as Mandakini and Prithviraj Sukumaran as the antagonist Kumbha. Priyanka and Prithviraj's looks from the film were previously released, while Mahesh's character, Rudhra, was unveiled on Saturday. Despite the film's puja being conducted in January this year, the team kept all details under wraps, unlike Rajamouli's previous films. Shooting took place in Kenya, apart from Odisha and Hyderabad in India, with the team facing numerous leaks during production. The film is expected to hit screens in 2027.
