The highly anticipated sequel to Vijay Deverakonda's 2022 film Kingdom has been officially shelved by producer Naga Vamsi. In an interview, Vamsi confirmed that the project is no longer moving forward, citing that there's 'no point in talking about it.' The decision comes after the first film, which was released last July, failed to impress audiences and earned a modest ₹82 crore worldwide. The film, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, had generated significant hype due to Vijay's involvement and the mixed reviews that followed its release. However, the movie's lukewarm box office performance has left fans and critics alike wondering what could have been done differently. Vijay's career had been on a downward spiral since the release of his 2022 film Liger, and Kingdom was seen as a much-needed comeback. Unfortunately, the film's disappointing performance has set back the actor's efforts to regain his momentum. Despite the setback, Vijay is set to appear in several upcoming projects, including the 2024 film The Family Star and the eagerly anticipated Rowdy Janardhana. The latter, directed by Ravi Kiran Kola, promises to be a thrilling ride with Vijay playing the role of a rowdy, as seen in the film's first glimpse. In an interesting turn of events, Naga Vamsi has expressed his willingness to collaborate with director Gowtam Tinnanuri on future projects, with the latter reportedly working on a new, 'different kind of film'.
