The long-awaited release of Jana Nayagan, starring Thalapathy Vijay, hangs in the balance as the film's producer, Venkat K Narayana, faces off against the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in the Madras High Court. In a video statement, Narayana described the legal battle as 'extremely difficult' and emotional. The film, initially cleared for release on December 18, 2025, was later sent to a revising committee after a single complaint was lodged. The producers approached the High Court after being informed of the decision on January 5, 2026. Justice PT Asha directed the CBFC to grant clearance on January 9, but the certification board challenged the verdict, resulting in an interim stay. The matter is now scheduled to be heard on January 21. The film's release, planned for January 14, has been put on hold. Producer Venkat K Narayana expressed his gratitude to fans, distributors, and exhibitors, who have been affected by the subjudicial issue. He apologized for the inconvenience and stated that Vijay, who has dedicated decades to the film industry, 'deserves the farewell he has earned through love from his fans.' The fate of Jana Nayagan's release remains uncertain, especially with the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections. The film, starring Vijay, Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, and Bobby Deol, is expected to be released in theatres once the legal issues are resolved.
