Actor Vijay's father, filmmaker SA Chandrasekhar, credits his son's career change to socially conscious films that have instilled a sense of purpose in him. Speaking at a Behindwoods event in Chennai, Chandrasekhar reflected on Vijay's decision to leave acting for politics. The crowd erupted in cheers as Chandrasekhar began talking about his son's journey. He noted that Vijay could have easily continued acting and earning a substantial income, but instead chose to serve the people of Tamil Nadu. Chandrasekhar drew parallels between Vijay and the late MGR, who also transitioned from acting to politics. He credited director AR Murugadoss for influencing Vijay's career path, citing the impact of Thuppaki's screenplay on his son. Chandrasekhar recalled how Vijay showed great emotion during the first narration of Thuppaki, hugging Murugadoss afterwards. Vijay, who has appeared in films like The GOAT and Jana Nayagan, is currently gearing up to contest in the Tamil Nadu elections. His final film, Jana Nayagan, is set to release on January 9, 2026, for Pongal. Chandrasekhar's words highlight the significant change in Vijay's career, one that has been driven by his desire to serve the people of Tamil Nadu.
