Elder W. Mark Bassett, a General Authority Seventy, passed away on May 11 following a traumatic brain injury. He was 59 years old. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints confirmed the news, stating that Bassett was with his family in St. George at the time of the tragic incident.
Bassett served as the acting executive director of the Missionary Department and had been a General Authority Seventy since April 2016. Church leaders expressed their condolences to his wife, Angela, and their five children, saying, 'Our love and prayers are with his dear wife, Angela, his children and his grandchildren during this difficult time.'
Bassett was a seasoned leader who had held various positions, including area presidencies in Brazil and the US. He was also a devoted family man, raising five children with his wife, Angela. The couple met during their time at Brigham Young University, where Bassett obtained a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1991.
