David Morales has been identified as the suspect who shot and killed a Tulare County deputy in Porterville, while the latter was serving an eviction notice.

David Morales, 60, has been identified as the suspect who shot and killed a deputy, Randy Hoppert, in Porterville, California.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning around 10:20am while deputies were serving a search warrant in the Newcomb and Grand area of Porterville.

The deputy who was shot was moved to safety and then transported to a hospital where he died at 11:20am.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Tulare County Sheriff's Office, Porterville Police Department, and California Highway Patrol, responded to the scene.

David Morales is accused of using a high-powered rifle to carry out the shooting and remained barricaded in a nearby home after the incident.
