Canadian police have identified the victim of a murder on May 15 as 23-year-old Vidhi Kalpeshkumar Megha, a student from India.

Megha was found deceased at a residence in St Catherine's, Ontario, while an adult male was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Three days later, detectives arrested 40-year-old Joshua St Omer in connection with the case and charged him with second degree murder.

The motive behind the murder is still unknown, and police continue to investigate the incident.

India's consulate in Toronto has expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and is providing support and assistance, including facilitating the transportation of Megha's mortal remains back to India.
