Iran Peace Talks Hinge on Water Security and Nuclear Deterrent

Is peace between the U.S. and Iran at hand, or is it just hype and spin? Both sides have an interest in proclaiming an imminent peace, but the gap between their minimum requirements makes an actual agreement difficult to work out.

The Trump administration faces a difficult choice: reassure the Gulf Arabs by deterring Iranian attacks on their water supply via threats of massive retaliation, or seek a quick end to the war at the price of more-favorable conditions for Iran.

The issue of water security for the Gulf populations will grow, and the U.S. may need to find an effective deterrent to Iranian attacks on vital infrastructure, such as providing a credible nuclear shield for its Gulf allies.
