Israeli Ambassador Yechiel Leiter hailed 'wonderful exchange' in talks with Lebanon in Washington, saying they're 'on the same side' in opposing Iran-backed Hezbollah.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged the two countries to seize a 'historic opportunity' for peace, but the prospect of an easy agreement appears slim.
Hezbollah, which is battling Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, opposed the talks and called for them to be scrapped before they even began.
The talks come after Lebanon was pulled into the region-wide Iran war on March 2, resulting in over 2,000 deaths and 1 million displaced people.
