Al Jazeera journalist Mohammed Wishah died in an Israeli drone strike in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday. Wishah was traveling in a car on al-Rashid Street, the coastal road west of Gaza City, when the strike hit, causing the car to burst into flames, according to Al Jazeera.
Wishah had been reporting from Gaza as part of Al Jazeera Mubasher since 2018 and was among journalists covering the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza since October 2023. The Gaza Government Media Office says at least 262 journalists have been killed in Israeli attacks since then.
Al Jazeera condemns the death of Wishah, calling it a 'heinous crime' and a 'systematic policy of targeting journalists and silencing the voice of truth.' The Gaza Government Media Office also called on international media bodies to condemn the attacks and urged the international community to stop the violence, prosecute those responsible, and protect journalists in Gaza.
