The news comes amid a sexting scandal involving Platner, who allegedly engaged in sexual messaging with at least six women via the Kik chat application.
Gertner brought the messages to the attention of a senior campaign aide, and the campaign has since acknowledged the allegations.
Platner's campaign has faced significant turmoil, with some critics comparing Gertner's response to being a hostage.
When asked about the allegations, Platner accused the Wall Street Journal and New York Times of running stories without evidence, calling it 'journalistic malpractice.'
