Soccer legend Lionel Messi and baseball icon Alex Rodriguez met President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday, where the 79-year-old president congratulated Messi and Inter Miami's co-owner Jorge Mas on their MLS win.
The event was to commemorate Inter Miami's 2025 MLS Cup title, which they won in December. The club flew to DC on Thursday ahead of a game against DC United in Baltimore on Saturday.
Trump started off on the conflict in Iran before turning his attention to Messi, saying his son Barron is a big fan of the Argentine soccer star.
This is Messi's first trip to the White House, and he had previously declined former president Joe Biden's invitation to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom due to scheduling conflicts.
