Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama's daughters, Malia and Sasha, have built lives outside of electoral politics. Since leaving the White House, both women have completed college, pursued their interests, and largely avoided leveraging their famous family name.
Malia Obama, the elder daughter, has carved out a path in the entertainment industry. She worked as an intern, contributed to Donald Glover's Amazon series Swarm as a writer, and debuted her short film The Heart at the Sundance Film Festival in 2024.
Sasha Obama, on the other hand, has followed a different path. She studied at the University of Michigan and the University of Southern California, receiving her degree in sociology in 2023. After completing college, she moved to Los Angeles, where she now lives with Malia.
Both sisters have chosen to maintain a close bond, despite growing up under extraordinary circumstances. Their parents have expressed pride in seeing them establish careers and identities of their own.
