The firing had been building for some time, with tensions growing over several issues, including Trump's belief that Bondi had tipped off Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell about the FBI's plans to release documents related to his alleged ties to a Chinese spy.
Additionally, Bondi removed many career Justice Department staff and shifted focus toward immigration cases, and her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files added more pressure.
Trump has appointed Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche as Acting Attorney General, with Lee Zeldin also being considered for the permanent role.
