The Pentagon has announced the dismissal of two senior U.S. Army officers, David Hodne and William Green Jr., as part of a larger leadership upheaval led by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
The abrupt firing of the top officers has sparked widespread questions, particularly at a point of tension in the Middle East conflict, which is currently in its fifth week.
The removals came as part of a sweeping Pentagon shake-up, with Hegseth also forcing out Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George earlier in the day.
Christopher LaNeve is anticipated to take George's place, while General George is said to be "retiring effective immediately."
Hegseth had announced two significant revisions to the military's chaplain corps a little more than a week ago, with Green heading the Army's Chaplain Corps and being removed amid reported changes to chaplaincy policies.
An official reason for the removal of Hodne and Green was not provided, but Hodne had been overseeing training and transformation initiatives, which were cut short with the announcement of his removal.
