The Pima County Sheriff's Department has addressed claims that Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping may have been a 'wrench attack'. The department stated that they have not received any reports referencing 'wrench attacks' in their community and that the investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance remains active and ongoing.
Experts have suggested the 'wrench attack' theory, a physical assault or kidnapping where suspects use violence or coercion to force cryptocurrency holders to disclose their private keys, passwords, or seed phrases.
Former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer and former law enforcement executive Lisa J Miller have also suggested the theory, but Miller notes that Nancy's case is not a 'typical wrench attack'. Miller believes that the Porch Guy, a man caught on surveillance camera, exhibited the behavior of a street-level operative rather than a sophisticated planner.
No suspects have been identified in Nancy's disappearance.
