Pope Leo XIV has denounced the 'delusion of omnipotence' driving the US-Israel war in Iran, urging leaders to stop and negotiate peace.

Speaking at an evening prayer service in St. Peter's Basilica, the US-born pope called for an end to war and idolatry of self and money.

Leo's message appeared directed at US officials, who have boasted of military superiority and justified the war in religious terms.

He called for all people of good will to pray for peace and demand an end to war from their leaders, saying it was a way to 'break the demonic cycle of evil' and build the Kingdom of God.

The Vatican is concerned about the spillover of Israel's war against Hezbollah in Lebanon, given the plight of Christian communities in the south.
